£1.7m Expansion Plan

Posted in News, Skateparks | On June 7, 2010 | By Phil

The skatepark based in Corby, Northamptonshire, has revealed plans to extend into lands and buildings surrounding their current site. These plans include a new indoor area, outdoor park and areas designed specifically for the disabled making extreme sports in the UK more accessible to all.

Adrenaline Alley has seen waves of success since being founded in 2002, it began as a small outdoor skatepark at Rockingham Motor Speedway and now receives more than 36,000 visitors every year. One of their latest ventures has been a Skate Only area which they opened just over a month ago and has been greatly received by the skateboarders of the UK.

Adrenaline Alley is another example of a NOT FOR PROFIT organisation pushing urban sports forward for the love, not money. The charity was started by Mandy Young, winner of the Pride in Northamptonshire Award, after her son, a skateboarder, had been subject to the all to common grief of those who have nothing better to do than pick a fight.

It amazes me how many passionate people and companies are out there who truly want to push the sport and the lifestyle further without just trying to get a chunk of the pie. These are the people that will always succeed because they understand it is not just a sport it is a way of life.

So show your support and make a trip to Adrenaline Alley, I went there last year before they opened the skate only section and loved it there’s something there for everyone.  Skateboarding will keep progressing as long as we all work together.

Enter the Derrics

Posted in News, Skateparks | On February 3, 2010 | By Phil

The city of Plymouth has never been on the top of anyone’s list of places to skate in the uk, in fact some people can’t even find it on a map. However all that is about to change with the introduction of the Prime Community Interest Company who have made it their mission to provide decent skate facilities for skaters in the UK.

The official opening date for this park is Saturday 3rd April 2010 and it looks to be promising. They currently have temporary opening times in place at the moment so it’s possible to skate the obstacles they’ve built so far. Membership is £20 for the year and for this you get a free t-shirt and £2 off entry fee, which is a bargain and even better the t-shirts say ‘roll with prime’.

Located near the Vue cinema on the barbican it is easily accessible by road with ample parking. What really sets this park apart is the Derrics, how this works is every month or so an obstacle will be built, you then skate the hell out of it to get some descent footy if it meets the cut it will then be edited and used on their website. Here’s a little sneak preview from their website:

Hold on to your seats guys because it doesn’t stop there the events booked so far this year look to be a must.

Additional Funding For Oxford Skatepark

Posted in News, Skateparks | On December 14, 2009 | By Sean

The Oxford City council has committed conditional funding for the £400,000 project to build a concrete skatepark in Meadow Lane in Oxford by 2011.

The current ramps at the Oxford Wheels Project are in bad shape with just one usable ramp left, so this is massive news for the Oxford skate scene.

The council is expected to stump up £50,000 and have the land in Meadow Lane marked as the ideal location, despite it being on a floodplain. They are currently working with the Environment Agency to ensure it’s safe to build it there.

The project plans to build to separate areas of the park, one part for transitions and the other a plaza.

Work has begun on Tamworth’s new skatepark after two years of hard work campaigning to get a new park in the town. The project began in January 2007 with Tamworth Wheeled Sports Club spearheading the campaign.

The current skate park in River Drive has problems with flooding after heavy rain and a new location was found away from the river at Castle Pleasure Grounds. The skate park has been made possible by financial contributions from Tamworth Borough Council and the Youth Capital Fund.

This was followed by a cash injection of £50,000 from the Youth Capital Fund. Work on the skate park will take around two months to complete.

Ealing Council has announced that it is allocating £ 200,000 to build a skate park in Ealing Borough.

A poll was held in May in which over 6000 teenagers were asked for their views on how one million pounds should be spent. The top choice was a new skatepark.
