 Who?... A Welsh Scene Vid

Ok this thing has been hyped around the net for the longest time now, and finally it’s dropped, so its time to pop Fully Flared back on the shelf, and get back to proper UK skating and grimey spots. This video has been long in the making, 21/2 years to be exact and the skater/filmer responsible is Scott Magill. He has laboured long and hard building up a hardrive of thousands of tricks in the process, so finally his Sony VX2100 can take a hard earned rest! SK8UK rolled on down to the London premier to find out the answer to the question of Who?

As a fan of the Transworld DVDs I enjoyed the opening montage of city scenes from in and around Cardiff and when the first section kicks in we are greeted with a handful of harsh slams from Chris Jones, but he picks himself up to throw down some very solid street skating ending with a hard fought flip noseslide on a sketchy long hubba.

Tricks keep flowing with Alan Williams stepping in with manny pad trickery that I have never seen before and Chris Jones steps up the pace with fast, confident skating at some of the UKs least pretty spots!

Next up is a fullpipe montage that is way to tight for most to step in, but still, tricks are pulled – which sets the tone for Welsh style of skating, fast flowing, with no barriers. This rolls in to a friends section just showing that the featured skaters aren’t the only rippers over the Welsh border.

Caradog Emanuals section is fun, such a little ripper, very quick feet too – one to watch out for, he will hit anything, reminded me of a Geoff Rowley as a kid! Jess Young goes large, nice road gap and handrail action, while Nick Batt lays long lines and Rhys Meek happily pings bigflips to keep us entertained.

Flip Crooks and Lazer flips are the catch of the day for Dai Williams and Dylan Hughes busts out Nollie flips down 10+ steps – very very competent street soldiers, I expect to see big things coming from these two boyos!

Foreign Beggers! No, not the Welsh Parliament, but the tune Nicky Howells kicks it to, nice chunky style – stomping flips down, not a thing sketched – and definitely the standout section – the other guys gave this DVD a very high standard, but Nicky steps over it with Nosegrind-bigspin heels at MK plus flip in-flip out manual roll steez and the show stopper for me was a Bigspin Flip down the steps at Lloyds in Bristol.

So that’s some of the answers to the question of Who? There is over an hour of decent bonus footage on here making it a bargain at £5 – but the most important thing on show is that skaters vibe off each other, you can see the stepup and progression of all the skaters, and although Nicky Howells section is a standout, I think 2 or 3 of the other skaters could easily have been on a par, but a lot of the footage was old – I shudder to think what the next video will have in store, but until then its more than fair to say the Welsh scene is alive and kicking, time for the rest of the UK to show its worth…
