I'm a resident in West Ealing and an aging skater (with a long lay-off through my 20s). I've got young kids and have noticed that, although younger kids are well stocked with facilities, there's nothing for slightly older kids. I visited relatives in Horsham and was really impressed by the skate park there. It just seems so obvious that kids in my area need somewhere like that to go to!!!
I've spoken to the relevant people at Ealing Council and there will be money coming up to build facilities for kids from ages 11-17. We need to create tangible evidence that people want something like this. I've spoken to local skaters, in-line skaters and BMXers and they're all really keen.
So I'm organising a campaign which will be web-based: www.westealingskatepark.net On the website we will have a petition for local kids to register their interest, an on-line questionnaire, a campaign to choose local kids as campaign representatives, a discussion forum and a residents' comments link.
What I need is advice, contacts and help! This is all off my own back so it's all "charity" work, but if you have web-design skills or personal experience of something like this elsewhere please e-mail me at mail@piersleigh.com
I've had interest and excitement from the skate industry and hope to get sponsorship and mentoring from manufacturers, retailers and skate-park construction companies.
So join the campaign!! Any advice gratefully received
