Hi I bought my skateboard from jjb sports and the deck is miles to heavy and was just woundering if it affects the ollie and my ridding. I did get some new skate weels from my local skate shop and they helped; I feel i am skating to slow and no matter how hard i push i just car'nt get enouth speed. I was thinking if i should just get my self a new board. rolleyes.gif

At the moment the weight of your deck shouldn't make too much difference, your better off concentrating on picking up the technique rather than how heavy your deck is.
If you want to go faster get better bearings.

Thanks for the info. What sort of bearings are out there.
HARRY.
Get 'Bones Reds' bearings.
Best, budget bearings.. ever.!

Man, I hate JJB Sports... I think I got my first board from there, and quite quickly one of the wheels snapped in half... it wasn't Urethene, it was just different layers of solid plastic with rubber on the outside, it turned out.

Anyway to answer your questions: you're probably, right, a complete setup from a sports store is heavier than a setup with good components. However, deck weight doesn't really matter. I just got myself a new Zoo York deck and my setup is now noticeably heavier than my pervious one (which had a World Industries deck), but it really makes no differece to my skating. Ollies are just as high, etc, so don't fuss about weight too much.

If the board is slow, you have shit bearings. Try spinning your wheel with your hand, if I remember correctly all those £20-30 completes have bearings that only keep your wheels spinning for a few seconds before they go dead. Listen to Harry ^ and get Reds.

Haiving said all that, I don't think it's worth upgrading that board. If you know you're really into skating, do yourself a favour and get a decent complete, up to £150 for Christmas or whatever.

Have fun.

Some fresh wheels will make you go so much faster and make "it feels like the worlds been given a new skin".

Lol yeh new wheels do feel lush! Get silvers if your board is too heavy, silver trucks are one of the lightest.
