Falling over hurts alot less than you think you will, you've just got to force yourself to get back up smile.gif

anyway, just don't think about it.
go out, skate, if you fall over, you fall over.
it's inevitable in skateboarding.
SkateMike

That makes sense i should do that. Just joking. But yes the more you fall the more it doesent hurt and the more you get used to it.
SkateMike

Get some pads to help your confidence until you get better.

You can start removing pads as you improve or feel more confident in what you are doing.

Ignore people who make fun of the pads, as long as you are actually skating and enjoying it then don't worry about what other people think.

Thank you for that and thank you for understanding a lot of people don't understand what it is like for a beginer but you seem to so thanks .
Oz.
Here goes...

1. You need to realise that, as with all extreme sports, you wont get anywhere unless you're confident. To be more specific, when attempting a trick, you have to KNOW you're going to do it and make it, you can't hesitate. The more you hesitate, the higher the chance of you falling over. You have to be sure that you are going to nail the trick 100%, if not, then theres little chance of you doing it.

2. Falling doesnt hurt 90% of the time. It might sting a bit, but on the VAST MAJORITY of falls, you will be able to get right back up again and carry on riding.

3. If you do fall, roll on the ground over and over till you loose momentun and stop. It hurts less that way. Often, I fall off my board and fly through the air, but if I manage to roll as soon as I hit the ground, I can get right back up and carry on riding.

4. Wear pads and a helmet if you want. There is NOTHING WRONG with this, and people don't laugh at you. If you really want, wear the pads under your jeans and hoodie, so people don't actually know theyre there smile.gif

Above all, enjoy it and don't be afraid! smile.gif

Can't think to add anymore than Oz has, its a fact that you are gonna hurt yourself! But then thats the best way to learn, you'll get over it soon dude.

I used to have a similar fear when I was young. I came from an over protective household in which my parents almost never let me take any risks. I was so tender when I started skating that I never progressed at first because I was too afraid to try anything risky, which include just about every skate trick. However, I toughened up over the years. You've just got to believe in yourself and that in the end, things unfold as they should.
Ok... That's my corny Yoda speach. But basically, toughen up, eat some beef and watch Rambo a couple times. Just believe in yourself and all the other shit just happens from there.

It's not like people fall that often. I started skateboarding a few months ago and I haven't actually "fallen" yet, more like stumbled.

I do pad up most of the time...but then when it takes weeks/months to heal from slams instead of days/weeks (ie when you're young) you realise its more important to be able to keep skating & not be spending valuable time out healing. Just spent 6 weeks off the board from a bad fall but it would have been a lot worse. My personal record was 5 1/2 months for a truly nasty hip slam lol

Its not like i have decades left after all pinch.gif

Go skating with someone else who is bound to fall. Then you can laugh any pain you might get right off. smile.gif

Patrick Melcher bail at the end of the "Better Than Life" trailer made me wince.

But yeah, from my experience the fear of falling is worse than actually doing it, and you'll realise this in time.

Even though i havent fallen a lot on a board it used to happen when i bmx;ed. I had this really bad fear that i would fall and hurt myself. I soon realised that its not the fall that hurts but the actual shock that your falling. Aslong as you cope with that you should be ok.

I know what you mean but permanently bending bones really does hurt. my poor right arm sad.gif
