At first I was going to write a long list, but I think I'll just keep this short.
Pretty much every NME "cool" band (eg The Pigeon Detectives, The Cribs, The Wombats), with the exception of The Horrors, Foals and Bloc Party.
Also all the new "trendy" deathcore/metalcore bands like Bring Me The Horizon, The Eyes Of A Traitor etc. They're all bland shit.
Also, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Really don't see what the fuss is about. I appreciate what they've done for music and respect them, but the music itself is complete and utter bollocks.
The Used, My Chemical Romance etc. Shit music, made by taking the best parts of other bands, and packaging it for 12 year old girls. Horrendous. Even worse when its branded as "emo", yet is as far from sounding like an emo band as can be.
James Blunt, and all of the other crap solo artists who have no appeal to anyone other than 30-something mothers of 5, who base their bi-annual album purchase on what they read in Heat magazine.
Very poorly written, but I think it sums up my attitudes towards music pretty well.
/arrogance.
Too many to even think about naming. MCR, Greenday, Hadouken, that kinda stuff.

The Beatles are fun! They make me smile. Lots.
I agree with you on the 'Trendy Band' aspect. Indie's great an all but i must admitt, you get alot of typical crap artist who have a really 'indie appeal' and are usually quiet satisfying to the eye, but then when it comes to talent.... The cribs aren't that bad but the wombats are definetely an example of bollocks .
on the metalcore/ deathcore front, i've always thought bands like Give Me The Horizon were a gift for anyone who was more into the scene of the music than understood the sound for some reason...

I have to agree with Matt about Led Zeppelin. So unbelievably overrated.
That said, i can listen to stuff like the Immigrant Song and imagine it to have been written by a modern band, which i suppose is the definition of the words "timeless classic".
WARNING: RANT AHEAD.
New addition to my list: Everything That Came After Bloc Party and Arctic Monkeys, Otherwise Known as Indie.
Let's face it, the above bands were the start of the indie craze. Young bands with guitars making songs for the whole family to sing/dance/tap their slippers to.
Now, im not blaming them for the constant stream of shit that's trying to force it's way into our brains 24/7. Bloc Party released an absolutely brilliant album with Silent Alarm, and are still one of the best bands to have come out of this country on recent years. There's a difference between them and the bands you see down at the pub on weekends, who seem to be going very much down the Arctic Monkeys road of bash-a-riff-out-that'll-do kind of music that i've honestly written with my band (and take note at this part) when we were all 14 years old.
Now, before the three of you who have read this far start thinking "so, rodney hates indie bands then", i'll have to point out that not all these bands are bad songwriters. Far from it. In fact, i'll dare to go as far as saying that there have been quite a few "quality tunes" that have stuck in my head throughout this bad guitar-pop affair. Feist recently released The Reminder, which was one of my favourite albums of 2007. Kasabian's first album was also a favourite of mine for a while, giving no indication of just how bloated and self-absorbed they'd become later on. And to top it off, even the fucking Pigeon Detectives released a song last year that i'd happily listen to again anytime with I'm Not Sorry. And these, ladies and gents, were all part of the indie-pop phenomenon.
But for the most part, it seems that the more indie music tries to progress and move into new territory with acts such as Foals giving it a bit of a quirky edge with a hint of (SHOCK) math-rock, there's always going to be a much bigger majority of bands that only exist as long as they can get played on a pub jukebox, sell out another tour, push the boundaries of predictability, or in the case of The Enemy, write songs whos only purpose is to remind middle-aged men that they hate their jobs and aren't allowed to have fun anymore.
Now, someone hurry up and get Bloc Party to start playing guitars again.
Saw Bloc Party live and they werent that good, quite dissapointed really. Just glad i didnt pay to see them.

But again the only reason i dont like some of them is because of people on the bus shouting "DJ blahblahblah in the mix yeooo" then playing all their songs

Yes, people who play prerecorded music.
Negative. At least for the most part.
A good DJ doesn't just press play on a laptop or a CD, but will be able to mix and edit tracks, samples, and whatever else together on the fly. A DJ such as Richard D James or Aaron Funk will be able to keep a DJ set going for well over an hour with absolutely no gaps between tracks, and with elements from several tracks being mixed together simultaneously, all completely live, without any of them going out of time or anything.
The reason why you probably associate the term "DJ" with rave or dance music is because a lot of producers (not actual DJs at all) seem to put "DJ" in their names for some reason.
bleh. i really can't be arsed with this, but the main point of all this is that proper DJing takes an unbelievable amount of skill to do, and anyone who claims to be a DJ and just presses play on a laptop is quite frankly an insult to all the artists who actually put in the effort.

I listen too alot of ska-punk/punk-rock and i have to say there waaay average. Operation Ivy was doing this ton's better nearly 20 year's ago. What make's them stand out from other modern ska/punk band's? I think you need to go listen to some Lightyear or Kingprawn and see how UK ska-punk should be done.
