I suggest padding up a bit to begin with unless you want to have to sit out weeks not skating, but waiting when you get injured.

This man speaks the truth! I'm 33 and just got back into skating after a long time out (18yrs) and five days after getting my new board i try too much too soon, fall off and end up in casualty. Torn ligaments in my arm and i'm out for about a month!
If only i'd worn pads 'sigh'
