some people wanted to know about cross processing, here's a wee guide.

Open Photoshop>File>Open> select wanted image>Open.

Copy Background Layer>Add Vector Mask>Gradient Map

Select colour gradient.

Set Opacity to 56%> change blending option to colour.

Copy Background Layer>More Background Layer to top>Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur

Change Pixel radius to 5pixels

Change Opacity to 35%

voila.

this is a VERY loose guide to cp'ing in ps. almost everything can changed or tweaked, and there's alot more defferent ways to do it.

Wicked, thanks for this. I don't have PS but have access to it so wil try it soon. Looks like theres a lot to be done with this technique.

Does it have to be a RAW file or will JPEGs do?
Trix
done all mine with JPEGs, rarely shoot raw, my rig wouldn't be able to handle it. also, just noticed that all the images are 1024 x 768, anyone who wants to resize the images and hook me up with a link to them is free to do so.
Gorg.
End product looks rad.

Sorry, not a fan of this. Just looks odd blink.gif

I, personally, think cross-processing looks horrid.
I mean, the one you posted a little while ago was okay, but I dunno. Just doesn't look right.
Trix
this is a blatent example of crossprossing. lots of professional work done with it is usually a bit more sutle.
chowmein
i dont really understand
is this just messing about with the colours n shit?
Trix
cross processing was invented by fashion photographers in the 80's/90's. it's a process where you develope the film in the wrong chemicals for it, to create different colours. this is just the digital version of doing it.
Pippi.P
thank god for the 2000's
Trix
I really want to try this with film, seems so rad.
MK Tom
dont think it works with skate photography, but would be interested to see what its like with landscapes.
Trix
so many skate shots are cross processed. here's an example.

thats sick.

i might actually go shoot something in film for once.

in my opinion, your guide doesn't emulate the cross processed "look" at all. blurring or losing tonality to make a photograph look like it was taken in 8-bit colour isn't that - that's more like posterisation.

you posted a good example just there by someone else, it's all about out of whack colours and the increase of contrast/saturation.
