Hey all (first post!). I'm not too sure what the average age is on here but i've just turned 29 (hahaha, yes I really am that old) and I'm wanting to learn to skateboard! I've always wanted to learn but never got round to it. I can snowboard, I don't know if that will help at all with balance but as you're not strapped to a skateboard.. I'm sure it must be very different!

I've been looking at getting my first setup, originally I was going to go all out and spend too much on a really nice setup from a local place but I've seen some deals on the bay and was wondering if they're alright for a first setup.

EBAY LINK
Jart deck (lots of options, I was thinking of a 7.75?)
Destructo mid trucks
Eothen wheels (choice in size between 51mm, 53mm & 55mm)
Abec 7 bearings
grip tape, bolts etc... all ready to roll for £75 delivered?
I've looked at all the parts priced separately on websites and they come to well over £75.

At the moment I'm just aiming to get comfy on a board and then learn a few basic tricks. No real intention of being a half pipe hero! I don't really know anyone else that skates (i'm from Brighton) so I'm going to be doing this on my own... If I can learn to cruise about and pop the odd ollie I'll be happy enough... for now!

I don't know if height, shoe size or weight makes a difference to what board to go for? But i'm just over 5ft10 (180cm), size 8 feet and 10.5 stone.

I've been reading through the forum and found a load of helpful info, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions (haha give up old man??).

Be cool if there is anyone from Brighton on here wants to show me how its done!

Cheers
Ross

I remember being 20-something.. *reminisces*

Anyways... The board you describe sounds like a bargain and the size will be fine.

You're a bit young but check out: http://middle-age-shred.co.uk/phpBB2_v2/index.php It's a site for older skaters.. Most of the MASers are 30+ we even have a couple of 50yr old members now... But everyone's friendly and you'll find some old folks to skate with in Brighton I'm sure.. As I said, nearly all the members are older than you so you may start thinking, "Am I a bit young for this lark?"..

Welcome to SkateUK. :-)

Thanks for the welcome and cheers for the link too. I'll check it out... biggrin.gif

Oh I forgot to say, some of the MASers are stuck in the 1870s so don't take everything everyone says as gospel..

But I think you've probably worked that out already. laugh.gif
