who cares, ignore them they dont let it bother you let their parents waste money on nice setups, i got loads of kids like that in my area, just skate and have a good time.

To be honest when i started i found it much easier to learn on a good setup. even if it was just because of the mind set of.... good setup, good skating.

Am I the only one here thinking that an element deck and thunder trucks isn't exactly, 'sick'.. It's a typical setup of a grom!

Tbh, that probably describes me quite well and I do feel like a bit of a jammy cunt for it.
I started late, my girlfriend got me a sick setup for my 18th birthday 3 months ago, Death deck, Tensor mullen lows, everything else was fracture cos we aint THAT rich, but because of that, I've not been to any of my local skate spots yet because I'd feel embarressed, but tbh I knew having a nice setup would motivate me more and make it that bit easier to learn on. And I have taken my skating seriously, i've learnt 5 or 6 flip tricks standing at least and can just about ollie curbs, I think it just depends on the skater tbh guys.
Rich newbs are always gonna make people jealous, but I think there is a difference between a beginner who knows what they want and a poser with more money than sense. You'd have to know the guy to tell.

And then you got the rich jammy bastards who know what they want and pay all their money to go to the best parks buy the best gear and become fucking sick.
Theres this one guy i know who lives near where i do and skates brentwood alot, hes got so much money and goes woodward and places in america every single year and has good new stuff on the regular

for a serious answer, when you start skating you dont go through stuff as quickly, so you have more money to spent on your setup, shoes etc. as you get better decks dont last as long so you dont really wana be taking out 60 for a new deck every months. better value for money comes into it when making a decision and how often to replace you stuff

I started on an argos deck as well they're so shit and it had the stupidest logo it even had plastic trucks!! i'm still loking for a cheap replacement but my ma and pa won't buy me one till my old one breaks even though i keep tellin em that the trucks are cracked

interesting topic here. I started learning on really old used boards but my first board that I bought and owned was probably on the more decent side.
My first set-up:
8" Blank
Tensor Meds
Flip Motorhead Sidecuts 54mm
Pig bearings
I think some factors were that I wanted a board that would be seen as good by other people. I also think that new skaters have little experience in buying skateboards so they'll make some choices different to experienced ones. Since then I've had less than average boards until now when I bought a new set-up after leaving my old one in China.
