OK so I normally ignore these E-mails but I know the girl who sent it to me and it's a friend of hers who I met once:
Hi Guys
Can you help? We are collecting old DVD's: Films, Skate, TV Series (Simpsons, Phoenix Nights, CSI, Buffy etc) and audio CD's or Tapes (Stand up comedians, stories etc) or any copies of the above, generally anything that's now collecting dust at home!
They are for our good friend (and keen skateboarder) MEGUMI JANE WILSON who was involved in a horrific hit and run accident four months ago which has left her paralysed from the neck down and unable to speak.
As you can imagine it is excruciatingly boring looking at a ceiling 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, unable to communicate by no means other than by blinking. Her parents have bought her a projector so they can play things through a computer and have it projected onto the ceiling for her to watch. We want to collect as much as possible to keep her mind stimulated between visitors.
If you can help in any way at all (even if you can e-mail any good jokes)
I won't post her address here but her E-mail is: jennaselby@btinternet.com

I asked the same question Phil and I got this reply:
They did catch the guy, he'd tried to burn his car. Doctors diagnosis is that she won't get better and will be on life support for the rest of her life, we're hoping though. She may be able to speak again though, but it won't be for some time.
I've been thinking about that all night. How one minute everything can be so rosy and the next it's all gone.. Live every minute to the full..

Being paralaysed is my biggest fear. Not being able to move is one thing, but not being able to speak?
I hope that she'll be able to talk again soon.

i know this may be stupid but its an idea, maybe a local movie/video rental store could make a charitable deal to give her new video's/movies every couple of days at a discount of maybe even free. You might think its stupid but their might be a really kind heated shop owner who would be willing to do that. If i owned one, i wouldnt hesisitate at all in fixing her up with some.

I really don't think that is a very mature suggestion. As part of the investigation into this enquiry, it has been established that the driver did not 'run a red light' as I have heard, and was not drunk either. For him it was a case of 'wrong place, wrong time' it could have been anyone in his place. Further to that I would like to point out that the dual carriageway is not a pedestrian crossing and should you need to use it for this purpose then YOU must check the road is clear - a driver has little chance of spotting a jaywalker in the night and certainly won't hear you. The pedestrian on the other hand will hear and see a car.
In all the reports I've read on this matter, not one has publicised the fact that it is not a pedestrian crossing - this is very irresponsible and we should all be made aware of this.
It is easy at times like this to seek someone to blame, unfortunately on this occasion the driver cannot be held at fault.

neutral01 you seem to have a lot of knowledge. Do you know the driver personally or the girl involved?
And lets face it. He didn't stop! That's the bottom line.

I know the girl involved to speak to and only the driver by name not face. However yes I do know a bit about the case - and not just what's printed in the paper or from local gossip.
Your right he made a BIG mistake by not stopping, but that does not mean that he is to blame, people DO panic and do stupid things - as I said it could have been anyone driving at that moment.
I just can't stress enough that people should not risk their lives to cross that nasty stretch of road, we all know the speed is 70mph and what chance does a car have to stop at that speed..?
I understand that people may take offence to what I say as they want to blame the driver - but in this instance it is simply not his fault.
