Hello one and all.Iam 23 years old and been dying to start skating again.I used to skate when I was younger in my teens, but was'nt anything special tongue.gif I've been itching to start skating again and it's been bugging me for the past two months. At first I thought it would go away but nope, I still wanna go out and skate!Trouble is Iam 23 now and most people would expect me to be decent at this age.Is it too late to start do you think? Also where would you recommend a decent place to start up again?I used to skate down in fairfield halls but I ain't got a clue what its like there now.Any help is much appreciated,
All the best.
Claire
Ooh. I notice you're from Stockwell. There's a park there, I think just round the corner from the station. Chris may be able to help with this.

I'm just starting to learn at the grand old age of 21. Others here are starting much later! You'll find yourself quite at home here, so pull up a chair and pour yourself a cuppa. (get one for me whilst you're there. Milk, no sugar, I'm sweet enough).
Aeris
aye, 'd be very pleased to have a skate with you when i'm in london again smile.gif

I re-started at 27... I'm slightly out of the ordinary in that my right knee is totally mangled...

I found skating on a tiny modern skateboard with tiny hard wheels VERY difficult!

I ended up putting old fashioned Kryptonics wheels on my skateboard and building a longboard.

I couldn't really get the hang of ollies again, I tried and when I was getting OK again I managed to fall and split my knee open. It scared me thinking I might re-mangle my knee (I've had two operations and I don't want another one) and now I still skate but a lot more relaxed, just longboarding along or tic-tac-ing on my shortboard.

Longboards are ACE! Really enjoying long hills smile.gif Still haven't come off.... But you go SOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo fast sometimes!!!!

Hey all, thanks for all the input!Sorry my reply is pretty late but been snowed under at the course Iam doing. It's good to see so many people started or started up again in their twenties, so I will definatly be getting a new setup as soon as my pay check comes through.(Unfortunatly I can't ask my mum to buy me stuff anymore laugh.gif ) I used to skate on a pretty wide board which was more suited for ramp and was quite heavy, so this time around Im gonna be sure to get a thinner deck.I might have to pop into brixton cycles and listen to their advice as they will know alot more than me!That is the only shop around that I know of.Is there any others you could recommend in the london area also?

Claire, yes stockwell skate park is pretty close for me so I will have to go down their when I get my stability back, probably late at night at first so I aint a health hazard to others lol.

Aeris, thanks for the offer, just let me know when your in town.

Oldie, I never skated a long board before but I have seen them and they look like a good laugh so I will have to have a go, I hope your knee is ok too man.

phast.phil, yeah I'am pretty prepared to fall on my arse alot and mangle my poor shins, at least nowadays I can get into the pub to soothe the pain.

Thanks again to all who replied and if you need a crappy skater partner drop me a line!
