The Snickers Day In The City DVD is a series of 3 minute shorts from UK Skate Film Directors and Skaters. The films - all completely different in look and feel - capture the ingenuity, creativity and progressive nature of skateboarding. The one common theme throughout is the use of London's streets as an urban backdrop.
The DVD, now in its fourth year, will have the biggest distribution of any British skateboard DVD of 2005. It includes the work of cutting edge UK Skate Film Directors: Guido, Rich Holland, Kevin Parrot and Adam Gendle. Joining these Directors are UK skaters such as, Ross McGouran, Chris Ault, Danny Beal, Ben Grove and Tom Watts.
During filming the crews had to fulfil a number of set criteria (visiting London landmarks, crossing London bridges and performing certain tricks), but apart from that they had full creative licence to produce an original film. From conception through to planning and production, everything is the work of the Skaters and Directors themselves.
The shorts vary in style, theme and plot. From the comic depiction of an "Only Fools & Horses" sketch by Dan Cates, to the heavy metal, punk-influenced short by Rich Holland, and Adam Gendle's unconventional skating "mother" performing tricks with her "son": they all show skateboarding to be both a lifestyle and an art form.
Judges, such as film heavyweight, John Beard (production designer, Thunderbirds and Life of Brian), Danny Dyer (actor, Human Traffic and The Business) and skate legend Mike Manzori will choose their 3 favourite films and grade them 1st (3 points), 2nd (2 points) or 3rd (1 point) place, using their individual discretion. The film with the most points overall wins a hefty cash prize.
The nine films, shot in the capital in August '05, will be screened at a premiere at The Old Truman Brewery on October 15th. They will be released on one interactive DVD in October '05. 25,000 copies will be distributed in over 300 stores via Etnies, with the DVD coming free with any other purchase.
