I hear so much stuff about 'crap' and 'quality' boards. As i havn't been skating that long i'm not really sure what makes a board crap or good. Is it the weight of the board, the quality of the wood, the materials of certain parts? I have a new deck and i'm about to buy new trucks and wheels and bearings, but i don't want to buy anything crap. I mainly use my board for street and i don't mind how much i pay so what should i buy? Should i buy low, lightweight trucks and tiny wheels or does this not mattter all that much? I know some people disagree on whether lightweight trucks make much difference. I'd be interested to find out people's opinions.

well, my first board is a mini logo deck, poison trucks, and code wheels and it cost about £65 and its pretty good. i think what makes a deck crap is when i doesnt have enough pop and if it snaps too easily. and bad trucks also give way too soon when landing big tricks but if your only just getting started i wouldnt worry about the trucks and wheels that are good for a beginner are hard ones that will not scratch easily and are good for street newbies, like me

If your just starting out, then unless you buy some toyshop complete you cant really go wrong. Decide on how wide a board you want, (thinner flip faster, wider give more stabilty) and get a blank in that size (southstar come highly recomended).

Trucks wise, its down to personal preference, they all do the same thing at the end of the day, some weigh more than others, some have a better turning circle, most come in pretty colours. If your going to get 'low' trucks then opt for smaller wheels, the down side of them is you easily stall on small stones, 'mids' give you that extra little bit of clearance so you can comfortably ride with bigger wheels (52-55mm) then again if your going to use risers too then you can used bigger wheels on lows.

From past expereince id recomend Tensors trucks (mids) Spitfire s3 core wheels (mine are 53mm) and bones reds bearings.

I'd say that silly painted rails make a board look crap. They flake away after a day.
My ideal board would be 80'', have a psychadelic picture of Pope Ratzinger on it, lots of plastic lappers and stuff, single kicktail with a spike on the other end, and the biggest rocker possible. My wheels would be purple 65mm Snakeboard ones made out of moddeling clay, with carbon fibre cores. The risers would be hand-carved from the skull of a female badger on heat. The bearings would be made by Bauer, but lined with cocaine. The griptape would be cut into the shape of a pretty picture, perhaps a serene mountainside view, or the coke logo. It would have invisible trucks.
Oh yeah, and ski bindings to go with my ski boots, to make those tricky 900's on the flat.
Cool, huh?
