i heard stacey peralta left powell peralta to concentrate on skating and filming, but im not sure. and they are one of the few companies that have survived from the 70s (i think they started int the 70s?)

Stacey Peralta left the company around the same time Tony Hawk did (read his autobiography). Hence why it's just "Powell" now.

i think they just shortened it for advertising and such. powell peralta went through a HUGE drop and almost was gone forever, so i think they also took out the peralta so people would think its a "new" company.

correct. i believe that powell started in...74 and then they bought peralta in like 76 or 77 and became powell peralta.

i was thinking back and remembered that powell was once powell parelta. what happened, did stacey parelta leave the company, or is this a name change for the sake of making it shorter. does anyone know what happened?

Parelta left to pursue his filming and directing career. Which he did prety nicely with dogtown and z - boys, i saw it not so long ago, it was absolutely awesome, It was pretty good how they turned up at that competition and realised the whole time they were skateboarding they were doing it completely differently to everyone else!!
