Well, small explanation first... I am originally from Venezuela.

*Sigh* This is really atrocious... http://www.nytimes.c...as/10venez.html ... No real violence before 11pm? Not even in the news? News with white patches censoring any violence?

Even worse 50% Venezuelan music on radio stations? Heck, the only good bands in Venezuela can't be aired coz they break the new decency laws anyway... Anyway, what the hell is this promoting? Mediocre bands, that’s what!!! They know they have 50% of the air time anyway!!!! Lovely to see it going the way of Cuba and other dictatorial regimes... :-/

I am going to apply for British citizenship soon, I don’t want to be Venezuelan anymore. I even want to loose my fucking accent, so I don’t have to tell people where I come from... :(

:( :( :( :( :( :(

There was a failed coup, yes.

Coups aren't the solution. Yeah it would get rid of one objectionable government, but it would isolate the next one internationally…

The problem is that the current "revolutionary" government and the opposition are as objectionable as each other and both oppress different sectors of the population.

BTW, if anyone steps in defending the current government I apologize in advance for anything might I say...

And keep in mind that I have had to deal with seeing members of my family beaten up on TV by soldiers and officers during protests. I've had to deal with knowing that people close to me have gone into hiding because they received death threats. I have family who have fled the country because of death threats. And I have seen aunts and uncles loose their jobs and have had to sell their homes and most of their possessions. I've seen both sides pelting each ther with rocks and bullest and I have seen first hand the intimidation that middle class people are being put thru... So it is very different to see it in BBC news thinking it is all well and good for the social changes, but sometimes the news don't paint the whole picture.

No, I didn't but I did now :)

"Security was a little different down there because they carried guns, usually pistols, but sometimes they carried shotguns or even machine guns"

 That's true :D The tiny sawn off pump action shotguns are the ones that always shock me... They load them with nuts, bolts, rock salt and all sorts of nasty ammo sometimes.

PS: Good thing they had the "Giant" with them, walking around with a skateboard is a sure way to get mugged down there...
