Enter the Derrics
The city of Plymouth has never been on the top of anyone’s list of places to skate in the uk, in fact some people can’t even find it on a map. However all that is about to change with the introduction of the Prime Community Interest Company who have made it their mission to provide decent skate facilities for skaters in the UK.
The official opening date for this park is Saturday 3rd April 2010 and it looks to be promising. They currently have temporary opening times in place at the moment so it’s possible to skate the obstacles they’ve built so far. Membership is £20 for the year and for this you get a free t-shirt and £2 off entry fee, which is a bargain and even better the t-shirts say ‘roll with prime’.
Located near the Vue cinema on the barbican it is easily accessible by road with ample parking. What really sets this park apart is the Derrics, how this works is every month or so an obstacle will be built, you then skate the hell out of it to get some descent footy if it meets the cut it will then be edited and used on their website. Here’s a little sneak preview from their website:
Hold on to your seats guys because it doesn’t stop there the events booked so far this year look to be a must.
May 2010 – Red Bull Manny Mania Qualifier
June 2010 – és Tour with Danny Garcia, Rick McCrank and more
